Star CNC Swiss Screw Machines

CNC Swiss precision machining is Swissturn’s core business, and our main line of machines here at Swissturn are the Star machines – Swissturn has in excess of 40 Star brand CNC Swiss screw machines and continually add to our capacity. Our Swiss-style CNC machines have automatic bar loaders, sub-spindles, front and rear live tooling, and mist collectors. Many have high-pressure coolant. Our newest machines include HFT (high-frequency turning), an option Star offers that allows us to break the chips on stringy materials. Live tooling allows us to turn and mill parts on a single machine.

Our Star machines produce parts ranging in size from .010” through 1.250” in diameter, lengths from .010” to 12”.

Haas DT-1 Milling Center

When a project requires secondary operations to provide a specific type of finish or machine blanks supplied by a Customer, the Haas DT-1 Milling Center can be used.  This machine’s primary application is to perform drilling and tapping, milling of flats, and machine complex geometries that could not be completed on our CNC Swiss screw machines.

Cincinnati & Royal Master Centerless Grinders

Centerless grinding is often used here at Swissturn to prepare bar stock for use in our Swiss screw machines.  Quite often, bar stock diameters may vary as much as .005” in its mill form, and after centerless grinding, the diameter can be held to a .0003” total diameter tolerance.  Grinding the bar stock before use is a critical step in machining Swiss screw machine parts and will aid in the seamless feeding of bar stock from automatic bar loader to Swiss screw machines.  Customers will also place orders and supply bar stock to be centerless ground for use in their Swiss screw machines.  These machines can also be used to centerless grind component parts manufactured by Swissturn or supplied by Swissturn’s Customers.  Swissturn has both through feed and infeed centerless grinding capabilities.

Support Equipment

Harding Lathes are used to shape and remove metal from a blank.  Quite often, these machines are used by Machinists to sharpen/alter tools, create fixturing, alter machined blanks either by cutting, knurling, drilling, turning or by creating a better finish by sanding the material.

Browne & Sharpe Surface Grinders are used to provide a precision ground finish on flat surfaces on fixturing, tooling and centerless grinding blades.

The UR3 Robot is used to assist in the sorting, measuring, and assembly of different types of components manufactured by Swissturn.

The BCN3D Epsilon W27 3D Printer is use in the design and manufacture of prototype components, machine parts, etc.
